I PASSED THE PE EXAM!!!!!

That is a nice little belated Christmas present to me. It was so torturous for Brian to know for almost two weeks while I still didn't know whether I passed or not!

Depressed?

So, Brian started pulling all of his ruck sacks and deployment gear out of the closet today to check and make sure he has everything. He will be packing his bags for the desert in less than 2 months, not that I am counting (yeah right). I am already sad that he'll be gone for 6-8 months. I am also a little freaked out about 2009. You see, I will turn 30 in 2009, and I am just not ready for the 30s. Then, I realized that I will be turning 30 alone here in Guam while Brian is in the desert. I've been dwelling on this thought for almost a week now, and I am a little embarrassed...it is a bit self-centered. I decided to get over my pre-deployment/pre-30 depression and do something for others. I intend to start serving dinner at a local soup kitchen if they'll have me (i emailed them today)...but other than that, I am having trouble coming up with ideas. I thought about big brothers big sisters, but I am a little intimidated about giving a young person advice that may alter their lives. I also thought about engineers without borders, but they predominantly seek college students...does anyone have any other ideas?

Private Property - No Trespassing

As we were hiking through grassy, deserted hills to Fintasa Falls (post below), we crossed a "private property - no trespassing" sign. For a second I considered turning around, but we were not going to run into another person out there in the middle of nowhere. After making it to the falls and hanging out for a few minutes, we started hiking back out to civilization and the car. (Actually on Guam people don't hike, they go "boonie stomping".) Anyway, a truck pulls up to us about 1.5 hours after hiking down the "jeep trail". I wonder what type of reaction they will have to our trespassing. In the states, the property owners would have either just notified you that you were trespassing and ask you to move on, or they would have been irate and threatened to call the police. Yesterday, we were asked to join the guys in the truck along with the rest of their family at their family ranch for beers. They also told us to come back anytime we want and to make ourselves at home on the ranch, even if no one is there. Amazing!
